Fire Outbreak Renders 3 households Homeless in Ebonyi

Over 3 households have been rendered homeless and few others displaced following a fire outbreak that gutted a 15 -room residential building, situated at No. 4 Gilbert Street, Kpirikpiri, in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

Also properties worth millions of naira,which include refrigerator, furniture , electronics and other household items were destroyed by the inferno which was caused by electrical fault.

One of the victims of the inferno, Mrs. Chukwudi Ifeoma  blamed EEDC for the inferno, she revealed to THE VOICE that there was power outage in the area and no sooner than the light was restored,it was taken immediately.

Stating “they kept bringing and taking the light frequently, until the fire started from one of our neighbours room who did not switch off his appliances.

” Unfortunately, that our neighbor had gone out and her four children had left for school. We tried breaking the door to switch off the appliance, but we couldn’t. Before we know what was happening, the fire had engulfed everywhere, and had entered our room.

“The fire connected from wire to wire, there was no way we could put it off, and we couldn’t open the door to bring out our belongings.
“although the fire service came to put off the fire but it was already late, as the fire has burnt everything we had”

” Right now we are homeless, I don’t know where to sleep, it was one of my neighbors who like me, that gave me one of her wrapper and some clothes for my baby to wear.

“we are homeless, no food, no shelter , no clothes, no money. Everything we had just went like that.” She decried.

She therefore called on the State government and well meaning individuals to come to their help and render them assistance.

Another victim identified as Amara Joy who also spoke with THE VOICE started that she just arrived from the hospital where her brother had been admitted , adding that she came back to pick few things from the house and head back to the hospital only to discover that the house had been burnt down.

” For three days, I haven’t been in the house. My brother has been admitted in the hospital, even money to pay his bills we couldn’t afford.

“He was finally admitted and I decided to come back home to pick few things and perhaps prepare food for him only to discover that my apartment has been burnt down. Everything I have is in there, and there are no more”

” If the government would come to our help, or any God sent individual we will be very grateful,” she pleaded.
