ASUU EBSU debunks rumors of academic activities

*”we won’t attend the matriculation nor teach the students”-chairman

Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities – ASUU, Ebsu Chapter has during her interface with Students high powered delegation of the Concerned Comrades of Ebsu, debunked the rumour making rounds that her members have resumed academic activities in the institution.

Speaking during an interactive section between ASUU and concerned compares of EBSU, the ASUU EBSU chairman, Prof Igwenyi revealed that none of its members will coerced to attend the upcoming matriculation nor teach the students, as they haven’t been paid for months.

“Note that until August last year no pension was captured for the institution, no academic appraisal has been conducted by the University since 2017/2018 and the results of the verified has not been published till date, threats to job and salaries owing to 5months arriers, No honorarium for excess work done by members in other programs of the institution, End Academic Allowance from 2009-2013 till date and the undue meddling in the autonomy of the university,” all these, he said were issues of the union in Ebsu and need to be resolved.

Speaking also, the chairman of ASUU FUTHA and also a lecturer in the institution, Prof Aguguo Egwu decided that the IPPIS was a desperate tool of distraction waived in by FG to destroy the power of collective bargaining in Nigeria and maintained that it does not capture the pecularities of the university system which ASUU stands to defend.

He reafirmed the Union position to continue in solidarity with the national struggle, which he revealed is source of funding for every institution including Ebonyi State University.

“We as lecturers are not yet engaged in any form of Academic and non academic activities in the university, we are on indefinate and total strike.”

They highlighted other issues that can still keep them out of the classrooms even if the ongoing national strike is called off. They addressed these issues as the domestic problems of Ebsu.

“If the government does not take responsibility of her established institution by an act of Ebonyi State House of Assembly then who would, Ebonyi State Government must see Ebonyi State University as her own.”

Speaking on behalf of the forum of Concerned Comrades of EBSU, Comrad Iteshi Iteshi Freedoms pointed that the forum is not going to accept all that has been said until it concludes her consultantations with other stakeholders involved.

“We are still consulting, the forum has interfaced with the Ebonyi State Government, now we have engaged ASUU-EBSU and we are now in the final face of our consultantation, we will meet with the VC and the EBSU Alumni after which we will stand to advice our students on the next justifiable action that shall profer solutions,” Comr Iteshi said.

The forum attended the section in the company of the Nans arrow head in Ebonyi State, Comrade Olisa Nwuruku Alfred, Dir Special Duties, Nans Zone B Secretariat and other members of the delegation, the state chairman of NANS Comr Ogwa Emmanuel Chidindu, Rotr David Arinze Nwajibia and Pius Paul Ukpai.
