The Wife of the Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs Mary-Maudlin Nwifuru has called on women to checkmate activities of their wards and children to avert any form of abuse in the society.

She noted that women play pivotal roles in sharping society with their compassion, wisdom and determination.

Mrs Nwifuru, stated this on Tuesday, during the 2023 Ebonyi Women August Meeting held at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township stadium Abakaliki, with the theme: “Mother, where is your child”

She noted that the convention was a call for mothers to be vigilant and proactive in safeguarding the welfare of their children.

She harped on the need for women to be committed to being first teachers, caregivers and protectors of their children as they are the future of the society.

According to her “As the first lady, it has been my massage to all mothers to train their children themselves and not send them outside for others to train.

“Ebonyi children needs to be saved from abuse and trafficking,” Nwifuru said.

The first Lady also empowered over 2000 indigent widows, children, and women in the state with grinding machines , sowing and water pumping machines and food items to enable them become self-reliant

In her opening remark, Mrs Josephine Elechi, Chairman of the Occasion and Wife of the Former governor of the state, urged traditional institutions and other critical stakeholders to increase actions to add moral values to the society.

Meanwhile, Mrs Felicia Nwankpuma, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, expressed confidence that the August Meeting would instill passion for mothers to be responsive to our children and families.

“The people’s charter of need “which is the driving mechanism of the administration has the mandate for the realisation of the aforementioned needs,” Nwankpuma said.

“We have a lot of work to do in our families and the society”.

Highlights of the events were lectures on breastfeeding, ills of Trafficking, gender based violence, among others by resource persons and comedy by Mc Walter and Soul to soul.
