Journalists in Ebonyi State have been advised to be agents of the nation’s development through their professional skills.

A Veteran Journalist and Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ebonyi State, Comr.Tony Nwizi, gave the advice on Wednesday, at the inaugural ceremony of Executive Members of THE VOICE chapel held at the office complex, mile 50, Abakaliki.

Represented by the Secretary of the union, Comr. Nnamdi Akpa, expressed delight on the welfare of the newspaper since the demise of the pioneer publisher, Late Chief Imo Eze, who according to him left an inedible mark in the history of journalism in Ebonyi State.

He described the newspaper as one of the widely read in the State and a breeding ground for fire brand journalists in the State.

Comr. Nwizi charged journalists to focus on evidence based journalism, not on hearsay, and to report news stories that are inspiring, for the development of the State.

Stating “one story can set the nation on fire, always report with fact, with evidence.

“Go for catchy story, human angle stories.

“I’m happy that this newspaper is still existing now. Many journalists started with this media organization and now they are in other big media organizations like SilverBird, Channels, Nations and many others.” He stated.

On her part, the publisher of the Voice Publishing Company , Mrs. Chinwe Onwosi Imo-Eze commended the Nigerian Union of Journalists for gracing the event.

She stated that the inaugural ceremony was first of its’ kind since the demise of the pioneer publisher, Chief Imo Eze, who was called to Glory on April, 16,2020.

She maintained that the essence of the event was to inaugurate executive members of the chapel. Adding the event will usher the company into a new beginning.

“It is my pleasure to welcome you all to this event.For over two years, chapel election have not been held in the Voice newspaper and this has caused great vacuum in the affairs of the company.”

“It gladdens my heart that this event, will mark the phase of a new beginning for the company and will usher greater opportunities to the Voice newspaper” she stated.

Mrs. Onwosi therefore called for peaceful synergy between the Nigeria Union of Journalists and the chapel to ensure the overall development of the State and beyond.

In a vote of thanks, the Editor, Mrs. Brenda Chidinma Imo-Eze appreciated the Executive members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) for their presence, while stating that The Voice will always be committed in reporting evidence based news stories.

However, Executive Members of the chapel include; Mrs.Chinwe Onwosi Imo-Eze – Chairman, Cheta Blessing Eshi- Vice Chairman, Mrs. Brenda Chidinma Imo-Eze – Secretary, Mrs.Nkechi Njoku -Assistant Secretary, Ebere Onuh -Financial Secretary, Kelechukwu Joel Njoku -Auditor .

Highlights of the event include the breaking of kola, inauguration of the Executive Members of the chapel.
