BREAKING: Curfew imposed in Ebonyi Community to Stop killings

The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, on Sunday, imposed curfew on Effium community to prevent further killings in the area.

Recall that killings and destruction of properties was the order of the day in Effium, Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi state recently when two factions of the National Road Transport Workers in the area clashed over  leadership tussle of the Union.

This clash which lasted for three days resulted in the killings of over seven persons and destruction of properties belonging to the Effium speaking people and Ezza indigenes.

These events lead to the imposition of curfew by Governor Umahi as contained in a statement signed and forwarded to The Voice by the Commissioner of Information and State Orientation, Barr Uchenna Orji.

The curfew, according to the press statement would take effect from Sunday, 24th January, 2020 from 4pm to 8am on daily basis with effect from Sunday, 24th January, 2021, until normalcy returns to the affected community.

The statement reads in part: “The Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi deeply frowns at the unabated violence and wanton destruction of lives and property in Effium community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area.

“In his determination to restore peace and order, the Governor has imposed a curfew in Effium community from 4pm to 8am on a daily basis with effect from Sunday, 24th January, 2021, until normalcy returns to the affected community.

“The Governor further directs the Security Agencies to ensure the strict enforcement of the curfew and to deal decisively with any person or group of persons involved in killings and or destruction of property of the people no matter whose ox is gored,” he stated.
