Another policeman has been killed as unknown gunmen in the early hours of Thursday, 6th April, 2021, invaded Obiozara police station in Ohaozara local government area of Ebonyi state.

The gunmen, who invaded the station at about 3am, burned down the office of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and the admin building.

A Source within the area noted that the main police station at the LGA was earlier burnt down during #EndSARS saga and gunmen has now attacked the temporal police station that  is been used for its office.

“I called one of the police officers who said they were attacked early this morning by 3am, one Inspector was shot dead. He also told me that they burnt two offices which are that of the DPO and the admin’s office.

“They had burnt the main office during endsars protest with some vehicles, they were now relocated to another block around the station were this attack took place”, the source said

At the time of this report, it could not be ascertained if the gunmen made away with any equipment belonging to Nigerian police.

Police spokesman, Loveth Odah confirmed the attack.

She said the gunmen invaded the station in their numbers.

The attack occured same day as a similar attack on the Police Command in Anambra State where two policemen were killed.

The Divisional Police Station in Obosi, Idemili North of the state where the attack occured was also razes by the gunmen.

This is coming five days after a Police officer was killed in another attack on Abaomege Police Station in Onicha Local Government Area of the state.

The attack further highlights the worsening and worrying state of insecurity in the southeast and south south region of the country where security agencies and other institutions of the law have recently come under attacks.

Lots of fatalities have been recorded in many of the attacks by the Police, Military and other security agencies.

The Federal High Court in Abakaliki was attacked last week and set ablaze by unknown hoodlums.

Similarly, gunmen attacked a Police checkpoint in Afikpo and allegedly killed two soldiers on duty last week.

The motive for attack on the Federal High Court, just like the attacks on security officials, is possibly to weaken state institutions that are in-charge of law and order, so as to create fear and confusion.

In Imo State, another South-east state, gunmen last month attacked and set ablaze the country home of the state governor, Hope Uzodinma.

With Boko Haram insurgency raging in the North-east, and banditry, kidnapping, and the ongoing bloody conflict between herders and farmers in different parts of the country, Nigeria’s security agencies seem to be losing ground, while the country bleeds.
