Ebonyi Council of Elders have appealed to the contractors handling the State projects to complete the State’s projects they are handling before the end of this year. The elders made this known during a 3-days inspection of the State projects under Umahi’s administration.

Speaking , the Chairman Elder’s Council, Chief Ben Okah appreciated Governor Umahi for his good works, he described the Governor as being courageous for embarking on numerous projects ranging from Ring roads, international Airport, Olympic Stadium among other projects.
He expressed delights over the pace of work done so far, while appealing to the contractors to complete work before the end of this year.

“The Ring road was built in the 80’s, it collapse and was never really completed by the regime of Chief Jim Nwobodo. Since then every government of Ebonyi State wanted to complete the Ring road and it fell on the lots of the present Governor, Engr. David Umahi.

“It gladdens the heart that this is happening, we thank the contractors and we say we are happy with them and ask them to complete this road within the tenure of this government”, he said.

Also speaking the Commissioner for Works and Transport, disclosed that the international Airport will be completed before the end of September, he assured the elders that, all are set to ensure that the Airport becomes operational before the end of this year.

” I commented that if th governor finishes these projects as stated, I will consider it one of the magic of the administration that time, I never knew I will be part of it. And you see the changes, so I went home thinking the possibility of this level. Here I am today, giving that assurance that, that magic will be real. ” He stated.

In the same vein, the Special Assistant on ring road project, Engr. Felix Anayo Ota, who conducted the Council of Elders round the ring road disclosed that the ring road project was 198 kilometers made up of eight(8) slots, adding that the eight slots were further divided into two, and four slots out of the eight are being sponsored by the Islamic Development Bank, while the remaining four are sponsored by Africa Development Bank.

While noting that the construction work on the ring road project actually started last year, Engr. Ota thanked governor David Umahi for his bold step in embarking on the construction of the ring road which connects eight local government areas of the state, adding that the people of Ebonyi state will ever remain grateful.

Two of the Engineers handling the project, Engr. Uchenna Okeagu handling section 2 of slot 1, and Engr. Carl Hung of CCECC representing slot 3 all pledged their strong determination to complete the project on schedule and also assured the state government of a quality job.

However members of the council expressed satisfaction over the projects, stating that it will bring about development and create job opportunities for the people. Members of the elders’ council who spoke include His Royal Highness, Eze Lazarus Umahi of Uburu autonomous community, the former deputy speaker of Ebonyi house of Assembly, Hon. Dorathy Ogonnaya Obasi, among others.

Speaking also, one of the villagers, Sunday Mbam mantained that the ring road has brought about easy mobility, and increased the commercial activities in the area.
Among projects inspected include Ebonyi Ring road projects, Edda Flyover, International Airport, Ebonyi Olympics Stadium among others.
