… Michael Oshiri School suspended for Cheating

The Ebonyi state 2020 All Mission Schools sports competition held at Annunciation secondary school field Kpirikpirri Abakaliki, has ended with the award winning 12 Apostles college Ndiaborishiagu Sharon in Izzi local government area of the state emerging the overall champion.

The champions otherwise referred to as 2020 champions emerged overall best having competed with16 other mission schools in the state in 13 different sport events which include volley ball ,football, basketball, badminton singles, badminton doubles, high jump, long jump,4×100 meters race,100 meters ,400meters, Scrabble, table tennis and 1500meters race both for male and female students of the schools.

In the male category, the 12 Apostles college got 4 gold, 4silver and 4 bronze medals to get the 1st position, the 2nd position went to Government Technical College Abakaliki, as they got 3 gold medals, the 3rd position went to St Thomas Aquinas Secondary School Nwofe, as they got 2 gold medals while the 4th position went to the host school Annunciation Secondary School kpirikpiri as they got 1 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medals respectively.

For the females, Government Girls Technical College emerged 1st with 5 gold, 4silver and 5 bronze medals, 12 Apostles emerged 2nd as they got 4gold and 3 silver medals, the 3rd position went to St Theresa’s secondary school Abakaliki as they got 3 gold and 3 bronze medals while the 4th position went to St Thomas Aquinas Secondary School Nwofe as they got 1gold and 1 bronze medals.

More so, with the advantage of constant practice and having both boys and girls, 12 Apostles college Sharon got 8 gold, 7silver and 4 bronze medals to emerge the overall champion in the 2020 Ebonyi state All mission schools sports competition.

The Ebonyi state Catholic mission schools sports Director, Rev. fr Matthew Orie, enjoined other schools to avail the students opportunities of taking part in sports as it is also part of education.

According to him, the competition is an avenue to harness untapped talents of the students as a way of exposing them to balanced education.
Meanwhile, on the last day of the 7days competition, male students from St Michael’s College Oshiri who were supposed to lock horns with 12 Apostles college in males’ football final were found to have hired non students of the school to play for them and so were suspended.

Announcing the suspension, the Director Department of Catholic Education Abakaliki diocese, Rev. fr Dr. Edward Inyanwachi, expressed great displeasure that such anomaly was found in a mission school and noted that, they shall still look into the matter to ascertain duration and other conditions for the suspension to serve as deterrent.

Efforts to speak with Principal of the suspended school Rev. Fr Obododike Maximus, who was present during the competition was not successful as he declined speaking with Newsmen covering the tournament.

The suspension brought joy to some schools as Government Technical college Abakaliki who got 3rd position earlier before the football finals ,were pushed up to second position while Bishop Okoro boys Afikpo who were in fourth position were then given the 3rd position.

On his part, the Director of the overall winning school Rev. Fr Gabriel Enogu, returned all glory to God for seeing his school to that great height , said it is outcome of good standard and insisted that good standard will always produce good results whether in sports or academics.
