Ebonyi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has doled out palliatives to destitutes and artisans in Abakaliki as part of their assistance to the needy in this era of COVID-19 pandemic.

The items were distributed by the party chairman, Pastor Eze Nwachukwu Eze, in company of other chieftains of the party.

They visited Mile 4 Hospital Leprosy Center, and St. Vincent De Paul Old Peoples’ Home kpirikpiri, and Red Cross Society Motherless Babies Home Nsugbe.

They also donated items to beggars opposite St. Theresa’s Catholic Church along ogoja road, and artisans opposite Abakaliki stadium, old Enugu road, Abakaliki.

In his address, Nwachukwu disclosed that the items were distributed to the party by one of their chieftain, Sir Edward Nkwegu.

Nwachukwu frowned at the late distribution of Ebonyi State Government’s palliatives to the masses, adding that they just compiled names while the people are still dying of hunger after 90 days of the pandemic.

He maintained that any APC member who receives Palliatives meant for the poor from the state government shall be suspended.

He accused the state government is sharing the Palliatives to stakeholders of the State instead of the poorest of the poor in the state.

He said: “It is our contribution as a party, we pray that everyone here will recover and join us at home.

“It is part of care to the people, APC is here because of the problems and challenges of Covid-19. Usually we don’t cover our faces but this time we have to cover ourselves because of the Pandemic. We are not better than any of us here, everybody is pained because of this virus but my advice is that we should not lose hope.

“Our brother Edon donated this to the party. These are yam, hand sanitizer, rice, nose mask. Please accept it we are hopeful that in no distant time this infectious disease will go, it will be a thing of the past.

In his response, the caretaker of St. Vincent De Paul Old People’s Home, Mr. John Lekpa thanked APC, stating it is the only party that has remembered them so far.

“Were are happy, this is the first time a political party is coming to see us in this Coronavirus lockdown. APC has been so kind to us. During President Buharis’ birthday, he sent a message to us through the party in the state. We are grateful and pray God to bless you all.
