Commissioner for Human Capital Development and Monitoring, Hon. Barr Orji Uchenna Orji, has directed the immediate closure of the operations of four empowerment groups in Ebonyi state.

The affected groups are, Enlighten Africa International, Wealth Creation Project, Immaculate Empowerment and St. Rita Empowerment.

The organizations according to the commissioner were operating without the approval of the state government.
This directive was stated in a press release recently issued and signed by the HOD, Admin, Okike Cecilia N, on behalf of the commissioner.

Recall that the commissioner during his take over from the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry vowed to clampdown on illegal empowerment groups in the state.

Orji also constituted a Human Capital Development Task Force (HCDTF), to crackdown on all illegal empowerment groups who masquerade as operators of health and economic empowerment programmes in the state.

The team is made up of 13 members, headed by the Youth Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev Edward Obumneme, with Mr. Edeh Uchenna E. as Executive Secretary, Ojukwu Innocent, Director Media/Publicity, Joy Felicia Nwokoro, Director Quality Assurance among others.

They are charged “to carry out comprehensive surveillance on empowerment programmes carried out by non-governmental organizations in Ebonyi State to ensure that only genuine ones exist.

“To track all job opportunities by governmental and non-governmental establishments within and outside Ebonyi State and report same to the Ministry of Human Capital Development and Monitoring.

“To ensure that all operators of empowerment programmes within Ebonyi State, comply with the laid down procedures by the Ministry of Human Capital Development and Monitoring.
