Ebonyi First Lady distributes Wheelchairs, cash gifts to persons with disabilities

The Ebonyi State First Lady, Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Ogbonna Nwifuru, has distributed 20 wheelchairs to persons living with disabilities and startup funds.

Nwifuru noted that her Foundation Better Health For Rural Women Children and Internally Displaced Persons, BERWO, collaborated with Ebonyi state Government as part of the activities marking the 1st October/Independence Day celebrations, to distribute the 20 wheelchairs to persons living with disabilities in the state.

Nwifuru said the gesture is part of the people’s charter of needs mantra of the state government to provide assistance to the people and alleviate their suffering, expressing she was drawn to the needs of these special needs people and concerned about how best to provide assistance for them.

According to her: “I believe that mobility is important for them as most of them are either crippled or unable to walk due to their medical condition. My foundation also provided the beneficiaries with cash envelopes to cover some expenses in their homes. was part of activities marking the 2025 Independence Day celebrations and Ebonyi State’s 29th anniversary.”she stated.

According to the governor’s wife, the wheelchairs were distributed to help persons with disabilities move freely and participate in various activities. She promised to continue supporting the needy and vulnerable populations in Ebonyi State.

The BERWO Foundation, led by Prof. Nkechi Emma Echiegu, has been providing various interventions, including hernia repair, eye surgery, and sickle cell treatment. The foundation’s team lead said they look forward to continuing other interventions, particularly for pregnant women.

Two beneficiaries, Nwode Emmanuella and Oko Ude Sunday, expressed gratitude to the First Lady for remembering them and giving them hope. Emmanuella, who contracted polio myelitis infection, and Sunday, who couldn’t account for the cause of his disability, both appreciated the gesture.
