Ebonyi State Govt. Confirms Date For Schools Resumption

The Ebonyi State Government, has directed all public and private schools in the state to resume classes on 18th January 2021 in line with the directive from the National Presidential Task Force on Covid 19.

This was released in a statement issued in Abakaliki, signed by the state’s Commissioner for Education , Dr Onyebuchi Chima ans masw available to the VOICE newspaper on Saturday 2nd January, 2021.

The statement further confirmed that higher institutions in the state would still open for academic activities on the 4th January as earlier announced on the condition of strict observation of NCDC Protocols on COVID-19 by all staff and students.

Recall that the presidential task force on Covid 19 had earlier announced that schools should resume on the 18th of January,2021 but the state government then issued a different date, 4th January, 2021.

A lot of students were left in limbo over the resumption dates of their schools all across the state which gave room for statement issued and reads in parts;

“I have been directed by the Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Engr. David Umahi to inform all public, private and mission Nursery, Primary, Secondary schools, Ebonyi State Colleges, University and the general public that due to the need to take precautions against the impending second wave of Covid19 and in compliance to the directives of the Presidential Task Force on Covid19:

“All public, private and mission Nursery, Primary and Secondary Schools in Ebonyi State shall resume on Monday 18th January 2021 instead of 4th January as earlier scheduled.

“That in order to ensure the return of students to full academic activities, especially as Academic Staff Union of Universities- ASUU had called off its 9 months industrial strike on the 24th December 2020, all Ebonyi State Colleges and University shall resume on Monday 4th January 2021 on condition of strict observation of NCDC Protocols on Covid19 by all staff and students” he stated.
