Ebonyi Govt says ‘no cases of cholera, Covid 19, lassa fever

 

Ebonyi state government led by Governor David Umahi on Friday said that there are no cases of Covid-19, Lassa fever and Cholera in the state at present.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezuruike made this known while briefing journalists in his office located at the Ocho-Udo centenary city, Abakaliki, Ebonyi state.

According to Umezuruike; “Human kind is always threatened because of strange diseases. If it is not cholera today, it will be lassa fever, or Covid-19.

“There is no present case of cholera or Lassa fever in the state as our ultra-modern isolation centre has no patient on admission.

“The index case of lassa fever in Ebonyi state was recorded in January 2021 at Ohatekwe community in Ezza north LGA since then the total of 18 confirmed cases of lassa fever was recorded across eight (8) LGAs of the state.

“All these cases was managed at the virology centre Abakaliki, currently no case of lassa fever but a total of 107 persons have been tested at the virology centre and they are negative” he said.

“However, we are presently emphasising on risk communication among the citizens and enjoining them to continue adhering to all COVID-19 protocols.

“People should visit the health centres nearest to them to be vaccinated without any cost”.

“There is also no present case of cholera or Lassa fever in the state as our ultra-modern isolation centre has no patient on admission.

“We concentrated on health workers, elderly people above 60 years and some strategic leaders in the first phase but we are presently vaccinating anyone above 18 years of age,” he said.
