The Ebonyi state government has mapped out N1billion for the training of special kids, teachers, and empowerment of widows, youths and less privileged in the state.

Commissioner for Information, Bar. Uchenna Orji, and the commissioner for Education, Dr. Onyebuchi Chima, revealed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the Tuesday, October 22, exco meeting at the Government House Executive Chambers, Abakaliki.

In a breakdown, they noted that N15 million was approved for Gifted School, a special school which would train the best students harvested from various parts of the state.

The school will take off with 200 students on 10th of next month.
N500 million was earmarked for teachers’ training while another N500million was for empowerment of widows, youths and less privileged.

“The state Executive council today approved the sum of N500million for training of teachers. We are training them on method of teaching after which we will organize examination for them to ensure they don’t only get the method of teaching but also specialize in the subjects they teach our children.

“A resolution was also taken and N15million was approved to harvest the best brains we have in our state as young as six and train them.

Government has a target goal to start the special school on 10th November, 2019. Our target is that the school will start with 200 students”, according to Chima.

On his part, Orji said human capital development was critical in the economic development of the state and that it was why the government places high premium on empowerment of the people.
