Ebonyi Govt to Review Policies Against Child Bullying

The Ebonyi State Government has initiated plans to review policies against child Bullying.

Governor Francis Nwifuru mandated the Commissioners for Education and Women Affairs to establish a committee to work on the modalities to review the policies.

The governor, represented by Deputy Governor, Patricia Obila, made the announcement during the 2025 Children’s Day celebration with the theme “Stand Up, Speak Up: Building a Bullying-Free Generation, “

He expressed concern over the rate of bullying in society and emphasized the need for collective action to address the issue adding that the committee is expected to introduce a helpline to assist victims and enable authorities to take action.

Governor Nwifuru called on parents, teachers, and caregivers to always listen to children, assuring that their safety is a top priority of his administration.

In her remark the First Lady of Ebonyi State, Mrs. Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, promised to create a safe learning environment for children and urged them to speak up to inspire change.

She said her foundation, Better Health For Rural Women Children and Internally displaced persons, BERWO, plans to expand mental health awareness by training teachers to detect bullying and intervene.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Felicia Nwamkpuma, emphasized that building a bullying-free generation requires collective action and encouraged children to speak up when molested to seek justice.

The Ebonyi Children Parliament Speaker, Victor Obasi, and his counterpart, Elvis Nnanna, appreciated the governor for his positive policies towards children, noting that their needs are multidimensional.

The event featured a march past and gift presentation to secondary schools, with Holyghost College emerging first, CSMT Schools second, and Great Minds Academy third.
