Governor David Umahi has assured non indigenes living in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, of the safety of their investments and property under Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru as Governor.

Nwifuru is the All Progressives Congress’ gubernatorial candidate for the March 11elections who enjoys the endorsement of the Governor

Umahi gave the assurance during a town hall meeting with stakeholders of Izhi clan held Tuesday in Abakaliki, the State capital.

There have been growing fears among residents from other clans within the State as well as indigenes of other states having landed properties in Abakaliki metropolis over rumours that Nwifuru would use his powers as Governor to revoke their rights of occupancy and reclaim the properties for his clan.

The Governor while addressing stakeholders of the three Local government areas: Abakaliki, Ebonyi and Izzi that make up Izhi clan, allayed such fears, maintaining that Nwifuru would consolidate on the existing peace and unity already enthrenched by his administration in the State.

He strongly assured all property owners in the State that their rights of ownership would be absolutely protected and respected under Nwifuru’s administration based on the extant laws of the State and the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria.

He described such rumours as mischievous devises of the opposition to discredit the APC candidate who enjoys popular support across the State.

Umahi said: “There is peace, equity, fairness in Izhi land.

“You are a hardworking people, very loving.

“I have told our candidate, the Speaker that I will not leave him: I will work with him to ensure that the promise he made to me, the peace is found in Izhi land.

“Some people are afraid, but I tell you, do not be afraid, I’m still there.

“And for our brothers from other places living in Izhi land, I want to assure you that all your properties are safe and will continue to be safe under Nwifuru.

“So, don’t mind the rumours from the opposition that he would reclaim your acquired properties in Izhi when he becomes Governor.

“That is a big lie.

“I want to assure you that we will continue to live together in peace with mutual respect as we have been living.”

Governor Umahi reinstated his commitment to equity which according to him resides in giving the Izhi clan of Ebonyi North Senatorial district the chance to produce his successor.

Umahi described it as abominable for anyone from Izhi clan to support any Guber candidate from Ebonyi South or central senatorial zones of the State, insisting that it was the turn of Izhi to mount the governorship saddle in the State.

He commended some major political stakeholders in the State including the former Secretary to Government of the federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, who according to him have continued to stand for equity with him in power sharing among the three senatorial districts of the State.

Umahi further called on all residents of the State to vote candidates of the All Progressives Congress in the coming governorship and State Assembly elections, emphasizing that Nwifuru was the right man for the governorship job.

The Governor finally urged the Izhi people to unite and speak with one voice in order to collectively achieve that which rightly belong to them.

The chairman of Abakaliki Local government area, Ebere Nwogba, speaking on behalf of other chairmen, assured the Governor of their total support for the APC Guber candidate, Nwifuru.

He thanked the Governor for his consistent defence of equity by insisting that Ebonyi North, particularly the Izhi clan produce the next governor.

Others who spoke, including an elder statesman, Chris Nwankwo, the chairman of Izhi traditional rulers council, Eze Fidelis Nwonumara, congratulated the Governor for his senatorial victory and pledged to vote APC candidates in the March 11 Guber and State Assembly elections.
