The Social Democratic Party (SDP), and the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) have threatened to boycott the upcoming council poll in Ebonyi State.

They urged the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission to remove the fee placed on the nomination forms for Chairmanship position and Councilors.

EBSIEC had placed the fee for nomination form at one million naira (N100,000,000)for chairmanship candidates and two hundred thousand naira (N200, 000) for aspiring councilors.

Speaking with THE VOICE in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State SDP chairman,  Chief Abraham Okpani maintained that the forthcoming elections has already shown signs of injustice, and as such the party cannot participate if the present administration led by Governor David Nweze Umahi will not provide a level playing ground for all political parties to contest.

The party kicked against the fees to be paid by candidates of the various political parties aspiring for chairmanship and councillorship positions, describing it as a way of depriving legible candidates from contesting in the forthcoming general elections.

Chief Okpani appealed to Ebonyi State government to address the issue by removing outrightly the nomination fees for Chairmanship and councilorship positions, while stressing that they are ready to participate in the exercise if only their demands were met.

In the same vien, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) also condemned the sum placed on the nomination of form for Chairmanship, and councilorship positions and called for it outright removal.

The chairman of the council,  Hon. James Obasi represented by his vice Chairman Hon. Nweze Ernest made this known in a communique signed by thirteen political parties in the State.

The chairman noted with dismay that the nomination fees is a plot by the incumbent government to put other political parties out of constest, he therefore called on all political parties under the watch of IPAC not to submit any name to EBSIEC until the commission yeild to their demands.
