The leadership of National Association of Nigerian students (NANS) Ebonyi state chapter has issued a statement on it’s planned peaceful demostration over the prolonged industrial Action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the country, slated for Tuesday 20th October 2020.

The statement addresed to the Ebonyi state Commissioner of police, CP Philip maku was signed by the South East and South South director of special duties, (NANS Zone B), Comrade Nwuruku Olisa Alfred.

Comr. Alfred stated that the peaceful rally which which will commence from the main gate of CAS campus Ebonyi State University is aimed at making demands on the federal government of Nigeria to renegotiate with members of ASUU towards a possible adjustment of the decisions that has led to the halt in academic activities in institution of higher education in the country for over seven months, which has negatively affected the Nigerian students,

The statement reads in part,

“I write to respectfully inform that the
National association of Nigerian students (NANS) will hold a peaceful demostration on Tuesday 20th October, 2020.”

“To demand for renegotiations between the federal government and the Academic staff Union of universities (ASUU) over the lingered 7months old industrial Action and possible adjustment on some gruesome and unfavorable decisions taken against students in the country.”

The statement, which further places demands on the federal government of Nigeria “to call off ASUU strike with immediate effect, also called on the federal government to provide paliatives for students as they return to school, to grant school and hostel fee waivers to students, as well as to call off all warning strikes by non academic staffs of Nigerian universities.
