Ebonyi Police have confirmed the death of a nursing mother who left her home on Sunday morning, January 12, 2020 for morning mass at St Theresa Catholic Church Abakaliki.

The deceased body according to the police was found in a gutter beside Enugu North Transit park, along Afikpo Road, partially burnt.

The deceased from Izzi local government area, had four children she left behind.

Police public relations officer, DSP Loveth Odah said; “about 12oohrs of January 12, one Idenyi Festus, male of no. 11 Awolowo Street Abakaliki, reported at the station that at about 4pm of the same day, his wife who was nursing their baby named Idenyi Ebere Ukamaka, 35years old, left her 11days old baby in their resident for early morning prayer, at Saint Theresa Catholic Church Abakaliki.

“That the nursing mother did not return and he searched for his wife on that 12 January, to no avail.
“He said at about 900hrs of of 13 January, he found her dead body in a gutter behind Enugu North Mass Transit Abakaliki.

“He said the wife after being killed was also burnt and that part of her body was burnt beyond recognition. He said it was through the part that didn’t burn that he recognized his wife,” she narrated.

Odah noted that a team led by the DCO, Kenneth Owo, visited the scene of incident and photographs were taken, while the remains was deposited in the mortuary.

She said investigation was on that the police will nab the hoodlums who perpetrated such heinous act.

Odah wondered why a mother will leave her 11day-old baby to attain a mass that early, but assured that police will get to the root of the matter
