Ebonyi police command has reacted over a robbery notice issued to Afikpo community in Afikpo North local government area of Ebonyi State.

It was gathered that the armed robbers had written to the community informing them of a planned attack in the area.

The letter which was allegedly placed at different positions in Afikpo town has brought tension in the Community.

When contacted, Caretaker Committee Chairman of the local government, Mrs. Amuche Otunta, could not confirm the said letter but she confirmed that there was security threat in the council.
She said, “all I know is that there is security threat in my local government”.

“Have you called the DPO? Who did the robbers addressed the letter to. Hear from the DPO, he is the Chief Security Officer of the local government. You said a letter was written to the community by robbers, I don’t know the community that received it.

“But to that extent, I know there is security threat and I don’t know whether a letter was written by robbers or not”.

A youth leader in the area, Eze Egwu, confirmed that robbers wrote to the community.

He revealed that policemen and soldiers have taken over the area.

Asked what they are doing to combat the robbers, Egwu said, “how can you be waiting for a well armed man with stick in the night or day in the name of security? We cannot risk our lives, it is only God that secures a city”.

Reacting to the alleged letter, the Ebonyi State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Loveth Odah, on Wednesday, reiterated their readiness to combat crimes and criminality across the State.

She maintained that any attempt by Criminals to perpetuate any form of dastardly act would be vehemently resisted against all odds.

Odah called on members of the Public to report any suspicious movement or individuals to the Police as no stone would be left unturned till criminal elements are brought to book in the State.

“Whether the letter is known or unknown, every incident of crime will be tracked and tackled by the State Police Command. We are working in collaboration with other security forces including vigilantes to track down hoodlums and anybody that wants to cause confusion in the State.

“We want to warn them to steer clear of Ebonyi State. Whether the plan is real or fake, it must boomerang. No kidnapping case in Ebonyi has lasted beyond three hours, because we have a network of policing, even down to the Local Government and Community levels.

“The pressure from our men will not allow them to hatch their plans. Ebonyi, I repeat is not a safe haven for Criminals. We are in collaboration with those that matter in the security architecture of the State. The members of the Public should go about their normal businesses and report any suspicious movement or individuals to the Police.”

A visit to the area saw policemen and soldiers with their operational vehicles at strategic locations in the community including a popular roundabout in the area called amauro both at the entry and exit points.
