By Chinwe Imo-Eze Onwosi

The Ebonyi state Fire Service said on Monday that it recorded 75 fire outbreaks and one death between January and December 2024.

Mr Raphael Ibiam, the Director of Fire Service, gave the figure in an interview with THE VOICE newspaper in Abakaliki.

Ibiam identified negligence and non compliance with fire safety tips as a major cause of the fire incidences.

He said estimated properties loss worth N257.2 million while properties saved worth N 2.267.5 billion during the period under review.

The director stated that the victims died from suffocation.

He further commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for providing adequate equipment to the state fire service.

He called on Abakaliki residents to adhere to safety tips to prevent fire outbreaks.

“The procurement of tools, fire engines and one hundred drums of 200 litres of chemical foams compound provided by the state government have been helpful,” Ibiam said.
