The newly elected exco and some executives of NUJ

Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ebonyi State chapter, on Friday, January 24, 2020, elected and inaugurated new executive members.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists Ebonyi state council had earlier set up electoral committee with Mr. Moses Eze as the chairman to conduct the election.

The election which was conducted on Friday, saw the emergence of Edward Nnachi as Chairman, Uchenna Nwanchor as Secretary, Nwakpa James as Assistant Secretary, Ozuma Anderson as Financial Secretary, Nworie Agnes as Treasurer and Joe-ogba Michael as Auditor.

According to the electoral committee chairman, Mr. Eze, the elected candidates emerged unopposed in the seven positions they vied for.

Inaugurating the new executive at Pa Ngele Township Stadium, the Vice chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists Ebonyi state council, Comrade Benjamin Nworie, who represented the Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Tony Nwizi, said the election and inauguration became necessary following the directive from NUJ national Secretariat that election should be conducted to constitute the State executive of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria.

He thanked the electoral committee led by Comrade Moses Eze for conducting a free, fair and peaceful election.

He further advised the newly constituted executive to carry every member along and to develop strategies that will transform the association and sports in the state.
He urged the general public to ignore any group that may parade itself as SWAN executive in the state other than the lawfully elected exco.

“I want to congratulate first of all the electoral committee who diligently undertook this assignment. It shows regard for the Union and shows high level of loyalty.

“Having gone through the recommendations and outcome of the committee as briefed by the chairman, and by the power bestowed on me as the Vice Chairman NUJ under the relevant section of the constitution of the Nigeria Union of Journalist as it concerns SWAN election, I hereby inaugurated this committee,” he stated.

In his remarks, the Secretary of the NUJ, Comrade Nnamdi Akpa congratulated the newly inaugurated executive and charged them to revitalize sports activities in the state through their write-ups.

He tasked them to run an all inclusive administration, so as to promote peace among the exco and members and to also promote the activities of the Association.

The Chairman of the Association, Edward Nnachi, speaking on behalf of the exco, thanked the electoral committee for conducting a peaceful election and the members for finding them worthy of the various positions, while promising to run an all inclusive administration.
