Ebonyi SWAN Hails Umahi for Staging Sports Tournaments

The Sports Writers Association, Ebonyi State Chapter has commended Governor David Umahi for conceiving and staging the School Sports Competition and other youths oriented sports programmes and policies.
SWAN in a Communique after its meeting in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital commended the governor for the tournaments which it noted is coming at a time when youth restiveness is ride in the country.
The communique which was signed by the Chairman, Emmanuel Nnaji(Blaze FM) and 3 others said the sports program will get the youths gainfully engaged while taking their minds away from criminal and violent activities.
“We also expressed our undiluted support and solidarity to Ebonyi State Government under the leadership of Engr David Nweze Umahi for the re-introduction school sports competition for both Primary and Secondary Schools and for championing a holistic grassroot sports development in the state.
“We also commend very highly the State Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Charles Akpuenika and the immediate past State Commissioner for Education, Dr Onyebuchi Chima for their zeal and unwavering commitment to the success recorded at both the Local Government level and Zonal elimination of the competition and of course the landmark feats recorded in the opening ceremony of the state finals of the showpiece on Thursday, 3rd June, 2021”, they statement said .
The Union also also lauded the State Government for concluding arrangements to organize other sporting activities in the state after the ongoing School Sports Competition.
SWAN also noted that it viewed with contentment the plan of the State Government to float both male and female soccer teams for the state.
It posited that this will launch the state into the comity of sporting states in the country.
The Union also called on all Ebonyians, lovers of good governance, and other sports-loving residents of the state regardless of their opinions to join hands and champion sports development in the state
It also lauded the National Leadership of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria led by Mr Honour Sirawoo for its leadership ingenuity, inclusive style of governance and overwhelming exploits.
“We unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the National leadership of the association led by Mr. Honour Sirawoo for its diligence and commitment to the ideals of the association”, they said.
It also assured Mr Sirawo of their solidarity and support at all times.
