Gov Nwifuru visits, consoles family of tanker Explosion victims in Ebonyi

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, Wednesday, paid a condolence visit to the family of late Jeremiah Nwaji, who died alongside 10 family members in a tragic tanker explosion in Enugu.

The governor, who was represented by his wife, Mary-Maudline Ogbonna Nwifuru, commiserated with the grieving family of the deceased in Abofia-Agbaja community in Ebonyi Local Government Area of the state expressing sympathy towards their pain.

The governor who described the loss as sad and as a huge one to the state, consoled and encouraged the family, promising the government’s support to the family.

Recall that the gas explosion, which occurred at Ugwu Onyeama along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, claimed the lives of 11 members of the same family in January 2025.

The victims were traveling in a private Sienna vehicle to attend the burial of their late father when the tanker lost control, crashed into vehicles ahead, and ignited a massive explosion.

In his remark, brother to the deceased, Mr. Ikechukwu Nwaji who appreciated the Governor’s condolence visit, lamented the loss of his entire family, including his brothers, sister-in-law, six children, and servants.

He called on President Bola Tinubu to reconsider the policy banning daytime movement of tankers loaded with Premium Motor Spirit, citing the devastating impact of similar incidents on families.

The family appreciated the government for the cash support of N5million, food items and assistance during the difficult time.
