Chibuike with his damaged left hand

The SS2 student of Glory Land High School, Ebonyi local government area of Ebonyi state, who lost his left palm to ‘knockout’ explosion has finally given more incite to the ugly incident.

16 year-old Chukwu Chibuike, said the ‘knockout’ was brought into the school by his classmate, identified as Migbo Afan, a mobile policeman’s son posted to the state police command.

Recall that a ‘knockout’ which exploded in the school during break last Thursday, damaged Chibuike’s left palm while his two friends were left unconscious.

The victim who was seen by our reporter lying critically ill at the children’s ward new Medical complex of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (AE-FUTHA), has had his hand amputated following the incident.

Chibuike told The Voice that he didn’t bring the ‘explosive’ to the school contrary to reports.

Stating that Mogbo Afan, who happens to be his classmate brought the supposed ‘knockout’ to the school and ran away immediately it exploded.

“This incident happened around 9:am. One of my classmates, Mogbo brought an object that looked like electric bulb which had black colour cover. He removed the cover and I was inside the classroom while he was on the step very close to our classroom. When he removed the cover of the object, the object fell from his hand and dropped on the floor .

“I rushed to pick it up and throw it way thinking that it is an ordinary knockout so that it doesn’t blow in the classroom and scare us in the class. So, I picked it and it immediately exploded on my hand and chopped it off like this. I also sustained leg injuries in the explosion.

“The boy is a son to a policeman, his father is a MOPOL man. When the incident happened, students scampered for safety and I was taken to one of the teachers in our school. They loosed my belt and tied it on my hand. My father was contacted and he came and took me to the hospital.

“The boy ran away immediately the object exploded and till today, he has not been found. His mother and father have been coming to hospital to see me. They usually cry and plead for forgiveness,’ Chibuike narrated.

On his part, the victim’s father, Chukwu Nwani, a native of Okposi Okwu, Ohaozara local government area of Ebonyi state, noted he was not happy that his son who was complete when he was born, would lose one of his hands as a result of action of a student in his school.

He called for justice on the matter and urged government to come to his aide to enable Chibuike get adequate medical treatment.

His words: “My son went to school on Thursday and the so called Mogbo Afan from Cross River state went to school with an explosive object and threw it inside the classroom. My son was thinking it was ordinary knockout, he used his left hand to throw it outside the window and it exploded and pieces his hand.

“My son has been using two hands but now he will be using one hand. I am not happy about it and I want government to assist me to take care of my son, I also want justice to be done on the matter. The boy who is on the run should be brought to book”.

Meanwhile, reacting to the recent development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Loveth Odah, said she was not aware that a son of a policeman attached to the state command brought the ‘explosive’ to the school.

She added: “Oh, I am not aware that a son of a policeman was the one that brought the object that exploded in the school. We only reported an incident that happened in that school and used it as warning to others to avoid such ugly incident again, also that boy has lost his left palm he cannot regain it again as result of knock.

“But we don’t know that a son of a policeman was the one that brought the object that exploded in the school. Maybe I will call ‘C’ Division let me investigate and know if the person is really the son of a police man”.
