The Ebonyi state Federal Road Safety Command  on Sunday confirmed the death of a passenger with two others injured in an accident that occurred on Abakaliki express road.

The accident, our correspondent gathered, involved a Mitsubishi truck and a Toyota bus at the Onueke area of the Abakaliki-Afikpo Expressway, in the Ezza South Local Government Area of the state.

According to a reliable source in the area, the accident took place amid a heavy downpour in the area, on Sunday.

“A terrible accident just occurred along Abakaliki-Onueke Road, close to Onuzo Nwedu Bus Stop, one casualty was allegedly recorded, the position of other passengers not yet known as of the time of this report, they were rushed to the hospital

“I learnt that a 911 lorry coming from Onueke collided with an L-300 bus coming from Abakaliki. The accident occurred during the rainfall, and one of the drivers had faulty wipers,” the source said.

The State Commandant of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Mrs Chukwurah Winifred, confirmed the incident.

She said three persons, who were all males, were involved in the accident.
According to her, while one person died, the other two victims were rescued by officers of the command and rushed to the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, for treatment.
