The former Commissioner for Border Peace and Conflict Resolution in Ebonyi  state,  Donatus Ezeogo Aja has debunked the report making rounds that he was arrested by the police for murder.

According to the report,  Ajah is being accused of complicity in the death of a 46-year-old man identified as Azubuike Inya. The deceased was allegedly killed by hoodlums who inflicted machete wounds on him that led to his death.

Both Ezeogo Aja and the late Mr. Inya hail from Amankwo village in Nkpoghoro community in the Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

Speaking to The Voice, Aja revealed that he was invited following the allegations level against him, for his alleged involvement in the death of Inya. Stating that the police have exonerated him after investigations proved his non involvement in the crime. According to him, it was discovered by the police that he was not in town on the day of the incident.

In his words “the police investigation proved that I’m innocent of the accusations. It’s just conspiracy against me. I pray the sponsors of this evil act will change their evil attitude and embrace peace in Amankwo village.”

However, in an open letter to the governor signed by Nkpoghoro tradiational council of elders , the elders petitioned the governor to come swiftly to their aid  and rescue them from the unwarranted intimidation and victimization of innocent citizens in the community. They prayed to the governor to investigate the remote cause of the crisis in Ezi Ukwu Ewa Amankwo, while appealing that the police should stop further arrest of the people, and ensure that the killers of Azubike Inya face the full wrath of the law.

The elders, who condemned the circumstances surrounding the death of Azubike Inya, stated that there have been internal rifts in the community which has resulted to more than five cases pending in the High and Appeal courts. This rift according to them has caused a lot of misconceptions and hatred among the people and has led the people to operate in factions.

Adding that ” the death of Azubike made one of the factions to  compile malicious list of persons who are not members of their faction and submitted to the police including people who were not around Amankwo vicinty, including the name of Chief Donatus Ezeogo Aja, an Illustrious son of Nkpogohoro ,a philanthropist and above all God fearing. This is very unfair and a height of personal hatred and victimization that is including his name in a crime he did not commit and was not there when it happened.”

They therefore prayed that the principle of fair hearing should be adopted in settling the age long crisis to avoid victimization of innocent citizens.

PPRO Ebonyi State Police command, DSP Loveth Odah disclosed to The Voice when contacted on phone that there was never any arrest made, stressing that ” No Ezeogo was  arrested” .
