The Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Chief David Nweze and some of his aides have tested positive to the Coronavirus disease.
This was confirmed in a released signed and made available to journalists in Abakaliki by the commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Hon. Uchenna Orji.
Although they are not showing any symptoms yet, they have embarked on self isolation.
With the development, Umahi has directed his deputy, Dr. Kelechi Igwe to take over the frontline coordination of the fight against Coronavirus Pandemic to protect Ebonyi people from the scourge of the virus, while the governor will be working from home.
The release reads: “The Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi FNSE FNATE has directed me to inform the good people of Ebonyi State that his test and that of some of his aides unfortunately returned positive to COVID-19.
“The Governor and the affected aides are showing no symptoms but have since self isolated in line with NCDC Protocols.
“The Governor has therefore directed his Deputy, His Excellency Barr. Eric Kelechi Igwe, PhD to take over the frontline coordination of our fight against Coronavirus Pandemic to protect our people from the scourge of the virus.
“The Governor reiterates his determination to pursue vigorously the course of our people especially in trying times like now. He enjoins our people to take the NCDC Protocols more seriously.
“The Governor is working from home and shall be conducting all his meetings virtually. Very soon he will test negative and rejoin in our conserted efforts in the battle against Coronavirus Pandemic.
“We bless the name of God for giving us a passionate leader and father who has made inestimable leadership sacrifice that Ebonyi State might be great.
