The Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Umahi, has felicitated Ebonyi women on this year’s international Women’s Day celebration.
He also felicitated Nigeria women and the global women for their achievements in development and gender equity in general.
Umahi described women of Ebonyi State as unique, and congratulated them for the feat they have achieved not only in the area of politics, but in all spheres of life.
He noted that the choice of a woman as the deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the State is a testimony of the level of inclusiveness they have so far achieved.
He called on the women of the State to throw their weight behind the APC governorship candidate, Francis Nwifuru and his running mate, Princess Patricia Obila as a mark of solidarity to their fellow woman.
“I urge the women of Ebonyi State and Nigeria to use the opportunity of the celebration to reflect on the sacrifices of past heroines who have paid the supreme price fighting for the rights of women.
“I personally commend the resilience, dedication and diligence of Ebonyi women which has brought tremendous improvement in gender inclusion in the State.
As a government, we are committed to giving the women equal opportunities with their male counterparts in Ebonyi State, including 50 percent affirmative action in politics. But it is important that women should always give solidarity to one another, for their dreams to be achievable.
“I therefore urge all Ebonyi women to support our deputy governorship candidate, Princess Patricia Obila in the coming election in the State.”
The Governor wished women across the globe happy Celebration and urged them to always collaborate to achieve a better world for mankind.
