A lady identified as Oluchi Nwenu, has been arrested over the sudden and unnatural death of her fiancé, Elija Egbara, 26 years, of Oshiebe Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The incident happened on August 2, 2019 at Hatchery Road Abakaliki, by Nnodo Guest House, after the couple who have been cohabiting, had retired to bed for the day after having their dinner at about 9 pm.
It was gathered that both went to bed naked but when the lady woke up at about 6am the following day, she discovered that the fiancé was dead and on raising alarm, neighbors came around.
In her reaction, the Public Relations Officer, Ebonyi State Command, DSP Loveth Odah, confirmed the report.
She said that the matter was reported to the police, and detectives from CPS led by the DCO visited the scene, photographed the deceased and took him to Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, where the man was confirmed dead by a medical doctor and his corpse was deposited in the mortuary.
DSP Odah said the lady was arrested by the police, adding that the deceased according to the neighbours was healthy before the incident and that the fiancée also confirmed that late Elijah wasn’t complaining of headache or any other ailment before his sudden death.
She noted that while investigation was still on, family of the deceased requested police to release the lady to them so that the matter would be handled as a family issue. While the lady’s family was insisting that the truth of the matter should be investigated and revealed by the police.
Meanwhile, Odah said that autopsy will be conducted on the corpse for them to ascertain the real cause of death, while the lady was released to the deceased family.
