Governor David Nweze Umahi laid a wreath on the cenotaph of the unknown soldier as part of activities to mark the end of 2023 Armed Forces rememberance day, celebration.
The wreath laying ceremony took place at the Unity Square, Abakaliki.
Those who took turns to lay the wreath include; the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Francis Nwifuru represented by the Leader of the House, Honourable Victor Chukwu, the Chief Judge, Justice Elvis Ngene, Commissioner of Police, Garba Aliyu, Cantonment Commander, Nkwagu Military Cantonment, Lt. Col Atomode, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Ebonyi State, Captain Fidelis Ogodo retired, the Chairman, Ebonyi State Traditional Rulers Council, Chief Charles Mkpuma, and a representative of the Legion Widows, Mrs Ada Onum.
The Governor who on arrival inspected a guard of honour mounted by a detachment of the Nigeria Army, also released a pigeon, as a symbol of Peace.
The detachment later sounded a twenty one gun salute in honour of the fallen heroes.
The Governor afterwards signed a condolence register as a mark of respect to the gallant heroes.
