…Urges Media to remain steadfast in upholding sanctity of truth

The Senator Representing Ebonyi South Senatorial district, Dr Michael Ama Nnachi, who is also Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Air Force; Poverty Alleviation, and Social Investment, has paid tribute to the members of Nigeria Union of Journalists Ebonyi state council on the occasion of their 2019 Press week.
Senator Ama Nnachi in a statement issued by his media office and made available to newsmen in Abakaliki, congratulated NUJ Ebonyi State for its resilience and diligence in the discharge of their responsibilities in the state.
The Senator who commended the Nigerian Media for its doggedness in promoting and sustaining Nigerian democracy, called on the Practitioners to remain steadfast in upholding the sanctity of truth and fairness in their reportage, at all times.
He said the role of the media as watch dog of the society cannot be over emphasized, and as such, deserves to be accorded all necessary supports and cooperation, by all and sundry.
According to him, the NUJ Press week with the theme: “towards developmental and responsible journalism in Nigeria”, is apt, as it is coming at a time when the media practitioners are facing ethical challenges.
He said for the media to truly perform its statutory responsibilities effectively, practitioners should religiously obey the ethics of the profession and show maturity and high level of responsibility in their conducts.
He said media practitioners must work toward the common good of all and the society, by being cautious in their reportage.
Nnachi promised to partner the Council in its service to the people of Ebonyi state, especially the people of Ebonyi South zone, whom he currently represents.
