… Makes financial donation for their upkeep
Engr. David Nweze Umahi, the governor of Ebonyi state, has promised to train the three kids of slain Abia -based Ebonyi business couple to the university level.
Umahi disclosed this while meeting with guardians of the bereaved children at Government House, Abakaliki.
He expressed shock and sadness over the ugly incident while comforting the family.
The governor had invited them after he got the news of their parents death in the cold hands of heartless robbers.
He also prayed God to grant them the fortitude to overcome the shock, and charged them not to cry like those without hope.
Umahi right there at the meeting, made a donation of N3million succour for the secondary education of the children as well as their upkeep.
Even as he pledged that the State Government would cater for the university education of the children once they were through with secondary school.
The affected children are Priscillia , 17; Solomon , 16; and Judith 12, and they are in SS ll, SS l, and JS1 respectively.
The governor assured the deceased children that government will not abandon them, while urging them to be courageous and put their confidence in God.
” Be courageous. I stand with you. Before leaving office I will make sure I pay for your university education, he pledged.”
Adding that the God who judges righteously will judge the criminals responsible for the untimely death of their parents.
Recall that the victims, Mr. Darlington Uzonwa, and Mrs Chinyere Uzonwa were murdered by the devil -may-care robbery gang along Secretariat Road Umuahia, Abia State, on January 25, 2020.
They were dispossessed of their cash before being shot by their killers.
Their children, two of who were with them in the family car when the incident occurred escaped the robbers’ bullets by whiskers.
The deceased were buried on Saturday March 7, in their home town , Ugwuegu, Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The first child of the deceased, Priscillia, thanked the Governor for coming to their aid.
She expressed their gratitude to Gov. Umahi for the kind gesture , adding that they will not disappoint the state.
While their uncle, Mr. Gregory Uzonwa thanked the governor, stating that he had shown uncommon love for the family.
He explained that the Governor’s gesture would go a long way in assisting the family to overcome the trauma of the tragedy.
” Today we have seen the biblical David in Ebonyi. You have given us hope when the Iroko of our family fell down. You have lifted our spirit and rekindled our hope. God will show you uncommon favour for this gesture, he noted“.
He promised to ensure judicious use of the governor’s largess for the purpose it was donated.
