Ebonyi State Governor, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, has revealed why he recently made the commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barrister Uchenna Orji, the acting commissioner for Ministry of Human Capital Development.
Umahi said when Orji who was the Commissioner for Human Capital Development before he was deployed to Information left the ministry, it began to collapse.
The Governor hinted that in order to save the ministry, he had to put sentiment aside and reassigned the ministry to Hon. Orji.
He revealed this yesterday when the people of Ohaozara, Onicha, Ivo, known as Ohanivo paid him Christmas homage at his country home Uburu.
Addressing the people, Gov. Umahi commended the Information Commissioner highly for his dedication, commitment and outstanding performances.
He further described Barr. Uchenna Orji, as a great performer, which was the reason he assigned two portfolios to him, stressing that apart from the SSG, Barr. Uchenna Orji was the only commissioner holding two portfolios.
His words: “I commend your son Uchenna Orji, his Ministry came first among other ministries in the state. And today, apart from the Secretary to State Government, no other person has two portfolios. He is the only one that is commissioner for Information, which he is doing perfectly too well, and then another commissioner for Human Capital Development.
“Is good to be important because,when he left that ministry, the ministry was collapsing and I said no, I cannot live by sentiment. Since God has given him the gift, come back and revive the ministry. You will see what will happen,” he assured.
This is the second time Orji, was being lauded in most recent times by the Governor over his outstanding performances in his assigned duties, particularly as commissioner for Information and State Orientation.
First was during an end of the year state dinner, held at Ultra modern Water Fountain, President Muhammadu Buhari Light tunnel, Akanu Ibiam Roundabout, Abakaliki, where Umahi announced Ministry of Information and state Orientation, as the best performing ministry in the state.
This came barely two months ministry of Information and State Orientation got a cash award, for producing the best ever documentary on state projects, during this year’s Independence celebration, and Ebonyi at 23.
Umahi during the Ohanivo visit, charged the council chairmen to ensure they drive along with him, in the infrastructural development of the grass roots, adding that he would only support any council chairman, that performed, and was able to complete at least, one kilometre concrete road in his council.
