The chairman of Abakaliki Rice Mill Company, Comrade Linus Obeji has announced the use of bushell measurement in place of scale to forestall fraudulent measurement in the Abakaliki Rice Mill industry.

Obeji revealed this on Wednesday while briefing the journalists in Abakaliki.

He disclosed that the decision was part of the resolution reached by Rice Mill Company owners to sanitize the corrupt practices witnessed in the industry and  rebuild customers’ confidence in the mill.

He maintained that the bushel would be constructed in a unique way to prevent alterations by ricemillers.

“His Excellency has zero tolerance for corruption and fraudulent activities, that is why we have resolved to use the bushel for measuring rice to avoid the use of bad scale to bring back our customers, we want to align ourselves with the Governor who stands for integrity”.

He commended the Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru for frowning against fraudulent activities liable to tarnish the image of the State and the company while maintaining that the entire interest groups in the Mill have resolved to support his administration.

Comr. Obeji equally eulogized Gov. Nwifuru, stating that his emergence as the Governor has restored relative peace in the the company.

In his words;“Immediately the governorship ticket was handed over to him, it marked the beginning of peace in Rice Mill, we called for a general meeting and asked for peace, everyone adopted him as our candidate and we ensured that we voted for him.

“The present peace we are currently enjoying is occasioned by his coming, and that is why we associated the divinity of his office to the peace we have today in the rice mill.” He said.

Speaking further, Hon. Joseph Ununu, the member representing Abakaliki South constituency emphasized the need for peace at the rice mill for improved business activities, while commending the chairman for his impact and support for the government.

“The chairman of the rice mill company is doing his best, and we are with him in supporting the State Government, all things are happening well in Abakaliki rice mill, there’s peace and we are enjoying the peace “

Earlier, the senior special assistant to the Governor on the rice mill, Mr Abel Nwozaka assured the rice millers that government would meet their demands for improved infrastructure among others.

He appealed to them to demonstrate their support for the government by paying all the necessary taxes due.
