2 persons Alleged feared Dead

Residents of Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital were thrown into confusion, following the enforcement of the Sit-at-home order by the Indegenous People of Biafra (IPOB) .
Ebonyians were seen running helter skelter, while motorists were on top speed to escape been killed by alleged gunmen.

Many who had left their homes in the early hours of Monday, made frantic efforts to seek refuge in any nearby compound or residential area, so as not to be victims of any circumstance.

Voice gathered that there was confusion in some popular markets, including Ahia-ofu, Kpirikpiri, the International market and the Ebebe market in Abakaliki.

It was learnt that IPOB members were seen around Ebebe market allegedly shooting sporadically, which made passersby to starting running for safety.

It was further gathered that a confirmed number of persons were allegedly killed, following the enforcement by IPOB.

The Voice scooped that two persons, a driver and his conductor were shot dead at Ahia Ofuru by unknown gunmen, this led to people running for safety, as the victim’s vehicle was burnt by suspected gunmen.

However, in a swift reaction, the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Command, CP. Aliyu Garba, who spoke to newsmen in Abakaliki, said there was no invasion by unknown gunmen in the State.

He asked the citizens of the State to remain calm.

CP. Garba noted further that he had deployed hundreds of police officers to go on patrol, looking for the said unknown gunmen.

In a related development, the governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, has, in line with the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari, ordered the security operatives in the State to shoot at sight any civilian seen holding guns.

The Governor, in a statement signed and made available to journalists in Abakaliki, by the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Mr Uchenna Orji, tasked traders to go back to their businesses.
