An Abakaliki Magistrate Court sitting in Abakaliki, on Monday 16 September 2019 remanded a 26 year old man identified as Odanwu Ozoemenam, in prison custody for alleged involvement in armed robbery.
The accused who faces two count charges of armed robbery and felony was said to have committed the offence on Monday, September 9, 2019, at Ntezi village in the Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi St
ate.
The accused person and his accomplices were alleged to have robbed one Ozuma Ngozi of her Mp3 player, handset phone and the sum of N35,000 on gun point.
The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Mbam Chinedu, revealed to the court that the offence which contravene the laws of the State, were punishable under sections 516A (a) and 402 of The Criminal Code Cap 33, Vol. 1 Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.
The charge reads, “That you Odanwu Ozoemenam ‘m’ and others now at large on the 9th day of September 2019, at Ntezi village, Ishielu LGA in the jurisdiction of this Honourable court did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: Armed robbery and thereby committed an offense punishable under section 516A (a) of the Criminal Code Cap 33, Vol. 1, Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.
“That you Odanwu Ozoemenam ‘m’ and others now at large, on the same date and place, in the jurisdiction of this Honourable court, while armed with a locally made pistol did rob one Ozuma Ngozi, ‘f’ of her Mp3 player valued at N4,500, phone valued N5,000 and cash sum of N35,000 only, totaling the sum of N44,500 and thereby committed an offense punishable under section 402 of the Criminal Code Cap 33, Vol. 1 Law of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.”
Presiding over the case, the Chief Magistrate, Justice Nnenna Onuoha, directed that the accused person be remanded at the Correctional Centre Abakaliki (formerly Prisons), because of the nature of the matter.
The case was adjourned till November 28, 2019, for report of compliance.
