A 3year old boy has joined the league of coronavirus victims in Ebonyi state.

The minor tested positive after his parents tested positive for the same disease on May 8.
Governor Umahi revealed this during a state wide broadcast on Wednesday at the new government house Abakaliki.

Umahi also expressed worry that the parents of the boy had refused to release their last child who is one year and six months to the state government, thereby exposing him to the dreaded virus.

He said that through the CCTV footage they discovered that the woman is breastfeeding the toddler.

The boy’s parents were the 6th and 7th cases recorded in the state and the little boy was on May 11, 2020 confirmed positive.

The man is 26-year- old while his wife, is 19-year-old and they are from Ezza Inyimegu, Ekwunegu community, Izzi Local Government Area, but reside in Oji River, Enugu where the man sells phone accessories.

Upon their arrival to the state, they were taken to the stadium which is the state quarantine centre on May 6 and their samples were collected.

The results were positive and they were moved to treatment centre in Abaklaiki, while the samples of their children were also collected.

“As at today, we have a total of eight cases. Three of the cases are very sympathetic because it involves a man and the wife. The man and the wife have two little children; one is a year plus, the other one is three years. Then we tested the man and the woman. In fact, we took the woman and the man followed to perform his husbandry role and we tested them and both of them tested positive. Now, that is the 6th and 7th cases.

“On 11th of this month, one of their kids; the three year old tested positive and they are now left with the little child of a year and half.

“The doctors have been battling to get the one year and six months old from his parents because the child is still sucking breast and the Doctors have preached everything to the father and the mother to isolate the little child since the he tested negative twice. The state will support the little child if they can bring the child care or we provide one but they have refused.

“Even through our CCTV monitor, they will remove the child’s shirt and then be breastfeeding the child. We don’t know what to do in that kind of circumstance,” Umahi lamented.

The governor also disclosed that 448 people are being kept at the local government holding centers.

21 people at the holding centre in Ohaozara local government, Ebonyi local government 52, Abakaliki local government 31, Ezza North 28, Ohaukwu 135, Ishielu 23, Afikpo North 35, Onicha local government 23, Ivo 1, Afikpo south 17, Ezza south 16, Ikwo 35, Izzi 31.

While at the stadium, there are 35 people. 33 are waiting results of tests so that would be released and 396 people have been issued with discharged certificates.

“We have tested a total of 818 samples mostly from Ebonyi state but we will also test for other states in south east and south south. We have treated 378 suspected cases that tested negative. If you test negative and you have some slight issues, we give you drugs and make you well before you go home”, he added.
