17-year-old Ojoko Friday, of Ndinwampfu village, Igbeagu community in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, was the recent victim of Ebonyi/Cross River bloody clash.
Friday was allegedly beheaded by Cross River warlords on December 7, 2019 when returning from farm with his parents and siblings.
According to the village head, John Ede, who reacted to the ugly incident, Friday, an SS3 student of Noble Secondary School Ndiechi, Igbeagu, and his family members were ambushed by their killers on that fateful day.
Unfortunately, his parents and siblings escaped the attack, but he was the only person caught.
Stating that they have been carrying out their legitimate businesses after they were told of a peace deal that was established through a peaceful negotiation by youths and elders of the warring communities.
Ede reiterated the villagers were compelled to lay down their arms, that the Ukelle warlords had already accepted to make peace, lamenting that they were decieved by the said peace.
“When the information came that members of a family from our village were attacked that evening, we informed some stakeholders that contacted the military post at Ipolo area who helped to trace the victim but they found his decapitated body, he stated.”
In his reaction, the traditional ruler of Igbeagu Autonomous Community, HRH, Eze Ogbonnaya Ukwa, called on stakeholders of Ukelle community to fish out Friday’s killers and hand them over to the law enforcement agents for immediate prosecution.
This ugly incident was coming even after the youths of Igbeagu and Ukelle communities came together to make peace which was attended by security agents, after several failed efforts by governments of the two states.
Reacall that the people of Igbeagu community and their neighbours at Ukelle in Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, have been at war over boundary matters. The bloody war has claimed many lives and properties.
