The Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Ogbonnaya Obasi Abara, has warned that Ebonyi government will no longer take lightly the attitude of some corps members who abscond from duty and that any civil or public servant who is found culpable shall be made to face the consequences.

He disclosed that the ministry will sanction National Youth Service Corps members who abandon their civic responsibilities to engage in other employments and merchandise.

The commissioner frowned at the truant attitude of some corp members deployed to the ministry and vowed to sanction any corps member found to be involved in the act.

The commissioner stated this while addressing a cross section of NYSC members serving in the Ministry of Works and Transport during a Service Evaluation meeting.

He pointed out that while the Federal Government is paying their monthly allowance regularly, Ebonyi State Government has equally been contributing her quota to consolidate the federal government’s effort.

He noted that the State governor, Engr. David Nweze Umahi had often made cash donations and other useful incentives to corps members especially during yuletide periods and national events.

Engr.Abara frowned at the unpleasant attitude of the corps members who after receiving the good gestures disappear from their primary places of assignments, noting that some of them abscond from service for a lengthy period and still be receiving the allowances.

In their separate reactions, the corps members appreciated the state Government for the show of hospitality towards them and assured the Commissioner that they will extend the message to their colleagues in other Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

They promised to do their best in order not to disappoint their parents, Federal Government and Ebonyi State Government.

The Corps members called on the State Government and the Ministry of Works and Transport to always listen to their plights and come to their aid.
