*Says Security Outfit Legally Constituted
The Ebonyi State Government has said Ebubeagu security outfit will continue to operate legitimately as it was properly established by the law.
The state government disclosed this known at a joint press briefing by the Commissioner of Information and state orientation, Mr Uchenna Orji, the principal secretary, Emmanuel Obasi and the security consultant, Stanley Okoro Emegha, which took place at the old government house Abakaliki.
Recall that a Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki, in a judgement delivered by Justice Fatun Riman had declared Ebubeagu illegal and unconstitutional.
Justice Riman had in his judgement disbanded the Ebubeagu security outfit and called on the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to disarm Ebubeagu Operatives.
But, the state government, in a press briefing through Barr Uchenna Orji and Stanley Okoro Emegha described the judgement as biased, a miscarriage of justice and a judicial rascality.
The State government revealed that the Ebubeagu security outfit was established by law 005 of 2021 of Ebonyi State and as such will continue to exist, and carry out its legitimate duties as stipulated under the law.
According to Orji: “That Federal High Court judgement is a miscarriage of justice brought about by malice on the side of the judge.
“It’s a judicial misapplication and misinterpretation, having regard to the principle of judicial and judicious decision. The judgement of Justice Fatun Riman is a miscarriage of justice that is dead on arrival” he stated.
He revealed that the Federal High Court judgement had been appealed and that the state will soon get a stay of execution.
Also speaking Security Consultant to the State, Chief Stanley Emegha enumerated some of the achievements of the security outfit to include working in tandem with other security agencies to safeguard the lives and property of the citizenry noted that the court must have been hoodwinked to deliver such a judgement that is anti-people.
He expressed optimism that the appellate court would reverse the verdict in due course not just because the men of Ebubeagu security outfit are operating professionally, and also innocent of the alleged offences, but because the outfit has a firm legal backing to its existence and operations.
The Special Security Consultant further noted that the opposition who instituted the case knew that the Judgement would not scale through the next round of judicial scrutiny. He advised them to stop seeking public sympathy because of the abysmal failure facing them in the forthcoming general elections.
“Nothing can save them from the obvious irredeemable election failure awaiting them. Ebonyi people are comfortable and happy with the achievements of Governor David Umahi and have already pitched their tent with the APC. They are yearning for continuity and consolidation’.
“You have the full knowledge that in the whole of South East, Ebonyi is the only state where the sit-at-home order is not effective hence hustling and bustling go on uninterruptedly on daily basis. The state has become the perfect destination for investors and tourists. All these gains are courtesy of Ebubeagu’s security outfit.
“It should be noted and recorded that immediately after the court’s judgement, security intelligence revealed that the people of the state were eager to hit the street in protest of the dissolution of the Ebubeagu security outfit, but we swung into action and calmed their nerves with a promise to appeal the judgement and get expected result soon.”
