The Councillors of Ezza South Local Government Area in Ebonyi State have refuted claims made against the executive chairman, Mrs. Euphemia Nwali by member representing Amegu Nsokara ward, Hon. Ikechukwu Ukpabi.

During the council’s budget presentation, Hon. Ukpabi allegedly disrupted activities, causing chaos and destroying properties worth millions of naira at the local government headquarters in Onueke.

Ukpabi and Oviga Cletus Oviga of Amezekwe ward accused the chairman of withholding their entitlement for nine months and mismanaging funds, asserting that the 2023 budget of over 2 billion naira was misappropriated with no projects executed in their wards.

In response, eight out of the eleven ward councillors signed an official statement on Friday in Abakaliki, debunking the allegations and accusing Hon. Ukpabi of pursuing personal interests to the detriment of the council’s progress.

The councillors expressed full support for the incumbent Executive Chairman, Mrs. Euphemia Nwali, urging Governor Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru to disregard what they referred to as a charade orchestrated by unscrupulous elements led by Hon. Ukpabi.

The statement described Hon. Ikechukwu Ukpabi as a meddlesome interloper who resorted to destructive actions, inflicting harm on the people of Ezza South LGA. The councillors reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the first female Executive Chairman in delivering democratic dividends to the grassroots.
