FG emphasizes on Regular Review of civil service, to enhance Manpower

The federal government on Monday emphasized on the need for regular review of civil service in the country in order  to boost manpower and achieve set goals for the organization as well as career progression.

The Head of Service of the Federation, Dr Folashade Yemi-Esan, made this known  during the opening ceremony of the 2020 workshop on manpower planning and budgeting in the public sector, holding at Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State

Represented by the permanent Secretary, Service Policies and Strategic Office, Dr Emmanuel Meribole, said manpower planning was dynamic in nature and required regular reviews for the purposes of achieving set goals for the organization as well as career progression.

Folashade said that optimal manpower planning could not be overemphasized, as it was key to determining the right style and competencies to be engaged in any organization.

 

He said: “the workshop is unique in the sense that it will address issues relating to our functions and duties in preparing suitable manpower planning and budgeting for our respective MDAs”.

The four days workshop with the theme, “manpower planning for effective career succession in the public service”, was organized for directorate level officers and the schedules/desk officers.

“Manpower planning is dynamic in nature and requires regular reviews with concepts and goals. Having the right manpower needs will help achieve set goals for the organization and career progression.

“Optimal manpower planning cannot be overemphasized as it is going to enable determine the right style and competencies to be engaged in your organization. So far, there has been show of expertise in preparation of our manpower planning and budgeting, but we need to do more, hence, the office of the Head of Service of the federation remains committed in addressing this. The workshop, is therefore, built to your capacity to enable you perform the task effectively”.

In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, Dr Emeka Onwe Ogah, said this year’s workshop was not just necessary, but imperative in view of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It is indeed, insightful and proactive of the Office of the Head of Service of the federation to have conceived and braved the odds and fears of the moment to organize this workshop”, he said.

The governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, who was represented by the State Head of Service, Dr. Chamberlain Nwele, while declaring the workshop open, commended the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation for hosting the workshop in Ebonyi State.
