Police operatives attached to Ogun state Police command, on November 10, apprehended a 70 years old man named Hansu Sunday, for sexually assaulting and impregnating his granddaughter, who is only 15 years old.
DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, Police Public Relation Officer, Ogun state, made this known to the general public in a statement.
He said the suspect was arrested following a complain lodged by the Aunty of the victim, at Ado-Odo divisional headquarter.
He said the Aunty told Police operatives that her niece informed her of the consistent sexual abuse meted on her by her grandfather. She also told Police operatives that the niece stayed with her grandfather since the death of her mother.
Upon hearing the details, the DPO of Ado-odo, SP Michael Arowojeun, deployed a team of Police officers, who went to the man’s house and arrested him.
Upon interrogation, the old man confessed to Police detectives that he was sleeping with his granddaughter but swore that he didn’t know she was pregnant
Oyeyemi also said that the victim has been taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
Reacting, the Commission of Police in Ogun state, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun, ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the anti human trafficking and child labour unit of the state CIID for further investigation and prosecution.
