Chief Simon Igwe-Iroh, of the Ebonyi State Broadcasting Corporation, Abakaliki, has emerged the pioneer National Publicity Secretary of Government Secondary School, Owutu Edda, Alumni Association.Igwe-Iroh who is the Editor News of EBBC was elected as spokesman of the Association after defeating two other aspirants in the keenly contested election conducted at the school premises, Owutu Edda, during the National convention of the Alumni.Other national officers elected include the National President, Mr. Osy Okoro Ndukwe, the Secretary General Engr. Ogbonnaya Oko Oka, the National legal adviser, Barr Agbai Nnachi.The election saw the presence of the member representing Afikpo North / South federal constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Idu Igariwey, and other pioneer students of the school.The institution as gathered was established in 1976 and the 2019 national convention which attracted her Alumni from all works of life had as its theme “GIRDING OUR LOINS”In his remarks, Igwe-Iroh attributed his victory to God’s grace, pledging to bring his wealth of professional experience as a journalist to bear in mobilizing support and membership to the association to achieve its priority.“Our Alma mater is in a hurry to reclaim her past glory, so am calling on my fellow National Exco members to hit the ground running by taking up their duties because it is by so doing that we can get to our desired dream, he charged.”He thanked his colleagues for their confidence on him and promised not to let them down.In his acceptance speech, the National President, Mr. Osy Okoro Ndukwe, pointed out that re-building of Government Secondary School, Owutu Edda was a top priority and charged members to sow seeds to that effect.Mr. Ndukwe said the dilapidated school structures would be giving face lift and called for all hands to be on deck for its realization.Some members of the Board of Trustees who spoke at the event include the board chairman, Engr. Oko Onaka, the member representing Afikpo North /South federal constituency at the National Assembly, Barr Idume Igariwe, the South East Regional Manager of Africa Independent Television, AIT and RayPower media Stations, Mr. Ken Eseni, Commander, Mopol 44 Abuja, ACP Oji Ama Nnanna among others.They maintained that the rationale behind the national convention was to review the progress made by the Caretaker Committee of the Association in the past three years with a view to giving back to the school that produced them.
