A man whose name could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report has accidentally shot his friend simply identified as Chika to death at Isu, Oshiri community, Onicha local government area of Ebonyi state.
The suspect had gone to the wake in company of his friends when at some point he started shooting into the air with his awka made, and a stray bullet landed on his friend who died on the spot.
Special Assistant to the governor on Internal Security and Utility, Ebonyi South, Chika Nwangele, confirmed the report to The Voice Newspaper.
He said the suspect was caught and handed over to the police while the deceased corpse has been deposited in the morgue.
He also reacted to the alleged news in the area that Fulani herdsmen went on rampage and killed three people in Oshiri from Egu Umuorie axis.
It was also claimed that Eke Oshiri was closed down as people were scampering for safety and three people were already dead.
It was leant the herdsmen were heavily armed with the sounds of their guns very scaring.
Hon. Nwangele in his reaction noted that the herdsmen arrested some youths from Oshiri that went to destroy their houses because their cows destroyed their crops.
He said they were only two boys who tried destroying the herdsmen houses, and that their motorcycles used during the aborted attack were in the police custody.
Nwangele reiterated that peace has been returned in the area as at the time of filing this report.
“People should not be talking as if there is problem in Oshiri between Fulani herdsmen and Oshiri people, and I have been countering that”, he stated.
