A tanker conveying petrol had on Thursday, skidded off the road and rammed into shops at Apata, Ibadan, Oyo State, causing inferno.

The inferno which started around 7pm was said to have burnt residential buildings, shops and vehicles which were parked by the roadside by their owners.

Videos of the incident making rounds on social media showed how the fired raged, consuming everything on its path, living residents in fear.

It was also gathered that an Oando Filling Station was affected, but the level of damaged it suffered was not stated.

When contacted, the Head of the National Emergency Management Agency in Ibadan, Saheed Akiode, said men of the Federal Fire Service drafted to the area had put off the fire.

He confirmed that though buildings were destroyed by the fire, no one life was lost.

Akiode said, “No life was lost but some buildings were affected, which the tanker ran into before it exploded. The firemen have all returned to their base station and everything is under control.”
