Umahi’s Wife Wants Lady Golfing Enhancement  in Ebonyi

The Wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Rachel Umahi has called for the enhancement of lady golfing in the state.

She noted that the involvement of women in golfing has broken gender barrier, against the belief that it was a game of men and expressed hope that the women would go internationally through golfing.

Mrs Umahi spoke during the first  ladies championship held in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State Capital.

The Governor’s Wife represented at the event by her Special Assistant on Welfare Matters, Mrs Patience Offor Okorie appreciated the ladies of Abakaliki Golf Club for their unity in piloting the affairs of the club in the state.

Mrs Umahi who is the grand patron of the golf club, assured her undiluted support and cooperation at all times towards the success and enhancement of lady golfing in the state.

She poured out encomiums to the Lady Golfers Association of Nigeria for their relentless efforts in championing sporting activities, adding that  the development had so far improved the health status of women in the society and expressed optimism that golfing would continue to grow in leaps and bounds in the state.

Earlier, the Lady Captain of Abakaliki Golf Club, Mrs Fonne Enene during her remarks thanked Governor Umahi’s wife and ladies of the Club in the state for their support and assured to pilot the section to the top.

She called for the support and sponsorship of lady golfers by well  spirited individuals and government of all levels so as to run golf school for the ladies.

On their part, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Deborah Okah and the immediate past President of Lady Goffers Association of Nigeria, Princess Joyce Nule called on Ebonyi Women to massively engage themselves into golfing as it reduces sickness, tiredness among others,  saying that the club is open to everyone whether rich or poor.

The Lady Captain of golf club in Calabar, Mrs Bmah Timothy and the male Captain of Abakaliki, Mr. Anthony Egwu observed that golf makes one to achieve integrity, social life, physical fitness and also improve means of livelihood.
