EBSU Fee Hike: Students might be forced to quit – Comr.Ekechi Nnamdi

Reactions have continued to trail the recent increment of school fees and introduction of new fee in Ebonyi State University, as students might be forced to quit the institution.

 

The management of Ebonyi State University, EBSU has announced an increment in the school fees and the payment of developmental fee to be paid by the 2021/2022 fresh students. This was contained in a memo titled: “Newly approved developmental and accreditation fee” released on January 5,2022.

The document signed by the Registrar, Mrs. Bibian Nwokwu reads “Following the decision of the Top Management Committee during her emergency meeting held on 10th December 2021 regarding new levy/fees payable by fresh and continuous student of the university as shown on the table below for implementation for all concerned.”

 

According to the document all students are to pay accreditation while freshers pay developmental fee and accreditation fee.

Developmental fee ranges from the sum of fifty thousand naira to the sum of two hundred and fifty thousand naira depending on the faculty.

However, the Students Union Government under the leadership of Comr. Benjamin Agbom has advised students to be calm as all measure will be employed to addressed the development.

 

Speaking to THE VOICE , a senator representing faculty of Law, in the student Union Government Senator Ekechi Nnamdi described situation as a pathetic , stating that if not was done the students might be force to quit the institution.

 

He however, called on the students to be hopeful, as the Student Union President will profer a lasting solution to the situation.
Speaking ” contrary,those of us requesting for us to announce a protest date,be informed that we’ll not do that now, until we’ve exhausted all our peaceful plans.

 

” And I trust the strength and wisdom our president,just like you do trust him to lead us through meaningful and helpful resolution as he has always done.

 

“So, while I may not protest increment as a decision, I’m very deeply concerned that if nothing is done about the present situation of fees,we may be loosing members of our Students community to unnecessary quits,but we trust God to cause them revisit and address the issue.” He said.
